One of my favorite old hymns is “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”
Some of the lyrics are; “Great Is Thy Faithfulness, There is No Shadow Of Turning With Thee..”
The song grows out of Lamentations 3:22-23. In that text, Jeremiah is thinking about the punishment Judah is about to experience. Jeremiah has warned Judah numerous times. They had been told to turn away from idols and return to God. But they didn’t listen and now they are about to be punished.
As Jeremiah thinks about this he becomes depressed. Then, in the midst of despair, Jeremiah says “These things come to my mind…it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
In his despair, Jeremiah is reminded that God still loves and God is faithful. His mercy never ceases.
These verses are reminder that God’s mercy never runs out. Every morning there is a new supply.
Maybe you think you have exhausted God’s love. You haven’t; God loves us. His faithfulness never ceases.
