When someone gives their life to Christ their sins are forgiven. But, that doesn’t mean they will never sin again. Their old way of life, their old habits…all of that is still within them and every day it has to be dealt with. It’s like doing yard work; you can cut your grass and weed-eat and it looks great. But every week it has to happen again.
So how do we deal with the old habits in our lives? How do we deal with our old way of life?
Paul talked about this in Galatians 2:20. Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me.”
Paul is saying that every day he had to die to his old way of life. Every day he had to put his old habits to death. You and I have to do the same.
The old temptations we dealt with…the old sin we dealt with…it doesn’t go away…it has to be crucified every day.
This is the key to Christian living. It has to happen every day or, our old habits trip us up. Maybe there is an old habit you are dealing with. Every day, ask the Lord to give you strength. Every day, ask the Lord to help you deal with your old habits & sins.
Josh Hamilton was a Major League Baseball Played for the Texas Rangers. Josh was a great athlete but he had substance abuse problems. He hired someone to help him deal with his problems. Josh was a Christian but he still dealt with his old problems. We will as well. We must, on a daily basis, ask the Lord to crucify the flesh.
My old self has been crucified with Christ.[a] It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me
