Are you a people-pleaser? If you are, you aren’t alone. Lots of people are. I confess… I have a lot of it in me. And being a people-pleaser is no fun. A people-pleaser is someone who wants to…. Please people.
For a teen-ager, that may mean having sex because someone wants to please a boyfriend or girlfriend. It may mean smoking a cigarette so a teenager will feel “accepted” by the crowd. It may mean spending some money on something you don’t or need but, you are trying to please someone so you do it. So, what can we do if we are a people-pleaser?
Paul said in Galations 1:10 “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
Paul’s primary concern was pleasing God. He said that he wasn’t trying to win the approval of people.. but of God. That should be our goal as well. One day we will all stand before the Lord and answer to Him. We should be concerned with pleasing God more so than man.
Now, someone may say, “If I stop being a people-pleaser, I may lose friends.” That’s ok; if you have to be a people-pleaser to have friends, those people aren’t friends to begin with.
Every day, our goal should be to honor the Lord. As Paul said, we are to be servants of Christ. Today, may our top priority to be to honor God.
