The book of Nehemiah is about Nehemiah leading the people of Israel to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. After the walls were complete, a time of celebration was held to thank God for His help. The Bible says, “Many sacrifices were offered on that joyous day, for God had given the people cause for great joy” (Neh. 13:43).
Focus on the words, “…for God had given the people cause for great joy.” For Israel, the cause was the completion of the walls. But, we have a cause for celebration without walls being rebuilt.
We should thank the Lord for our salvation. We were lost with no hope for salvation but Jesus gave His life for our sins.
We should thank the Lord for provision. God gives us good to eat and a home with a roof over our head.
We should be thankful for our health…our family…our jobs…Each one of us have reason to celebrate.
At times, we can forget how blessed we are. There is a poem that goes;
“I had the blues because I had no shoes. ‘Till on the street I met a man who had no feet.”
Today, give thanks to the Lord for your salvation, for provision, for family, friends, health and jobs.
