When we become Christians, our sins are forgiven. However, we still live in a world that is filled with sin and that sin is powerful. Temptation is powerful. And, due to the power of temptation, we may think we can’t resist it. We may think it’s simply too strong. But that’s not true. Paul tells us that God gives us the power to resist.
In I Corinthians 10:13, Paul wrote, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
Paul is telling us that although temptation is powerful, God is more powerful. Paul says, “God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to endure.” In other words, God isn’t going to give us more than we can handle.
You may be struggling with some particular temptation now. Whatever it is, give it to the Lord and He will give you the strength you need.
Lou Holtz, former Head Football Coach at Notre Dame and South Carolina, once said, “God said He wouldn’t put more on us than We can handle but, I think sometimes He overestimates my abilities.”
Maybe you feel the same way. God has promised to be with us and help us with any temptation we face.
