What does it mean to live for Christ? In the first century, one of the issues they faced was, what was appropriate to eat or drink. The more mature Christians knew that meat was just that; a piece of meat and they could eat whatever they wanted. But younger Christians thought you should abstain from eating meat that had been sacrificed to pagan idols. Paul told them not to get hung up on those things. Instead, Paul said early Christians should focus on living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Think about that.. Living a life of goodness, peace and joy.
Goodness means living in a manner that pleases God. It means being kind to others and doing the right thing. It means experiencing peace. We have peace with God and peace with our fellow man. And it means experiencing joy. Each of these; goodness, joy and peace, come from being filled with the Holy Spirit. Every day we must ask the Lord to fill us with His Spirit and the Spirit helps us live lives of goodness, joy and peace.
Then Paul adds, “If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too.”
Today, don’t get hung up on trivial things that don’t matter. Focus on being filled with goodness, joy and peace and as we do, we please God.
