Living the Christian life is a challenge. We can know what we should do, but doing it can be challenge. We can know what we shouldn’t do but do it any way.
Paul talked about this in our text. Paul wrote, “So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate” (Romans 7).
Notice Paul said, “The trouble is with me…for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead I do what I hate.”
I can identify with what Paul said. There have been many times that I’ve known the right thing to do, but didn’t do it and times when I did something I knew was wrong.
This is because of the power of our flesh. Even though our sins have been forgiven, our old nature remains and it is powerful. The old habits we had…the old desires…it’s all still there…and every day it has to be crucified.
Today, ask the Lord to help you put the old flesh to death and walk with the Lord.
