In Acts 23:1, the apostle Paul stood before the high council and said, “Brothers, I have always lived before God with a clear conscience!”
Paul had persecuted Christians so how could he say, “I have a clear conscience?” It’s because Paul had been forgiven. When Paul was converted, his sins were washed away.
The same is true for us. Maybe you have made mistakes and you think you can’t be forgiven. You can be forgiven if you will ask the Lord. You can have a clear conscience just like Paul, if you ask the Lord for forgiveness.
“Amazing Grace” is one of the most beautiful and recognizable hymns. It was written by John Newton. As Newton aged he said, “Although my memory’s fading, I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior. We are all great sinners and Jesus is a great Savior.
