Service Is Key In The Kingdom of God

The values of the Kingdom of God are very different from the world. In the world, success is found in things…money…house…title…etc…
But in the Kingdom of God success is found in service.
In John 13, Jesus washed His disciples feet. Washing feet was a very menial task that a house servant normally did. So, when Jesus washed feet, He was demonstrating to His disciples that He was about service. Of course the ultimate demonstration of service was Jesus death on the cross.
Years ago, when I was Pastor of a church, every year we would put a hand-out in the bulletin for people to let us know where they would like to serve. There were always people who wanted to serve on either the finance committee or the personnel committee. Some thought those were the two “prestigious” committees. Our Lord said, “Not so;” If you want to be significant, serve..do the menial things.
Be a greeter on Sunday morning…work in the preschool or children’s department…help in a food kitchen…Do something to help others.
Jesus said, “And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow.” Let’s follow His example.
