We Don’t Always Need A Sign – At Times We Just Need To Act

Have you ever had a decision to make and you ask the Lord for a sign? Most of us have at some point. But, do we need a sign?
In the book of Judges there is a story about a time when God called a man named Gideon to lead His people into battle. But Gideon felt unqualified to lead Israel. So, he asked God for a sign.
Gideon laid out a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. He asked the Lord, if the fleece of wool was wet with dew the next day but the ground was dry, that would be a sign from the Lord that He wanted Gideon to lead Israel into battle. So, the next morning, the fleece of wool was while the ground around it was dry.
But that wasn’t good enough for Gideon. Gideon asked if, this time, the Lord would make the fleece of wool dry but the ground around it would be wet. And, the next morning the fleece of wool was dry and the ground around it was wet. So, God had confirmed to Gideon that He was the one and he asked the Lord, if the Lord really wanted Gideon to lead Israel, he asked if the Lord would cause the fleece to be dry while all the ground around it was wet over night.
This story has led many people to ask for a sign when God is calling them to do something. At times, there is nothing wrong with praying for some kind of a sign… but, it shouldn’t happen frequently. Sometimes, asking for a sign is just another way of not wanting to do what God is calling us to do.
Again, asking for some kind of sign is ok at times but we shouldn’t need it for everything we are commanded to do. Sometimes, we just need to act.
