Last night, the NFL draft was held Young men were drafted by various NFL teams to play Pro football. Each of those young men are considered successful. They are great athletes and will make a significant amount of money.
I do not mean this as a slight to them but, is that (playing NFL football) the standard I’d success? Well in the world it is.
Again, I don’t mean any slight to those young men. For that matter, you could ask if a person has to make lots of money to be successful. And the answer is “no.”
The Bible says that one day the disciples were arguing about who was the greatest?Jesus heard this and said, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.”
Notice that Jesus said, “I am among you as one who serves.”
Jesus set an example by serving. Success in the kingdom of God is not measured by who has the largest church, or the amount of education; instead, success is found in service.
MLK JR said, “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
