Receiving Constructive Criticism

“May I give you some constructive criticism?”
When someone asks that, we immediately draw up a little anticipating hearing some tough words. Nevertheless we probably answer, “Sure… go ahead.”
Then, the individual tells us something they have seen us do that needs to be corrected or something we are doing that needs to stop.
Well, criticism can be good for us. Proverbs 13:18 says, “If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.”
Think about those words… “… if you accept correction, you will be honored.”
Maybe you have received some criticism from someone and perhaps it got under your skin or aggravated you. Instead of letting it aggravate you or get under your skin, think about what you were told and ask yourself if there is some truth in it. If it is, accept the criticism… it can help make you better. And, whatever was said that was false, set it aside and forget it.
Norman Vincent Peale once said, “The trouble with most of us is that we’d rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.” So, criticism can be a good thing. Don’t let constructive criticism get you down. Listen to it and act what is right and toss the rest of it aside.
