Albert Einstein once said, “It’s not that I’m so smart. It’s just that I stay with problems much longer.”
Persistence is a key to any great achievement. Persistence means sticking with it…not quitting or giving up.
In Luke 11 Jesus told a story about persistence. He said that suppose someone went to a friend’s house at midnight wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You tell him that a friend arrived unexpectedly and you have nothing to eat.
The man calls out from his bedroom and says to leave him alone because it’s so late. But, the friend persists in prayer and eventually the man gets up and gives the man some bread…all because of the man’s persistence.
Then Jesus says “Keep on asking , keep on seeking, keep on knocking.”
In our prayer lives, we can give up. But Jesus said “keep on knocking.”
Let’s say we are facing a significant challenge. We can get frustrated and give up. But Jesus said, “stay with it…persist.”
So, if you are facing something that may have seen insurmountable, don’t quit. Stay with it.
The late Jim Valvano, Head Coach of the North Carolina State Wolfpack basketball team and winner of the National Championship in 1983 once said, “Don’t quit! Don’t ever, ever quit!”
Neither should we. Persist in prayer and trying to achieve your goal!
