Blessings Of Obedience

Let’s imagine it’s the first day of school. The teacher begins telling the class what they expect from the student. If the student does what the teacher says, the teacher will, for the most part, be happy and the student has a good chance of learning and receiving good grades. But, if the student doesn’t do what the teacher expects, the student is probably not going to make the best grades. There are blessings involved in being obedient.
In car sales, during training, you are given the steps to follow to the sale. If you follow the steps to the sale.. if you follow the direction of the managers, you are likely going to sell cars. If you don’t… some may be successful but most won’t. There are blessings involved in obedience.
In Deuteronomy 11, the people of Israel are being prepared to go into the promised land. Moses is reminding them of the commands the Lord has given them. Moses tells the people that if they are careful to obey the commands they have been given they will be blessed. But, if they fail to obey the commands, they will be cursed. So, there are blessings involved in obedience.
Question for all of us on this Sunday morning; are we obedient?
Do we read our Bibles? The Bible is the greatest book ever written. It gives us direction in living. I encourage you to spend time reading God’s word and then, apply what it teaches.
Do we spend time in prayer? With the coronavirus pandemic, many have turned to prayer and that’s good. But prayer doesn’t need to be limited to the coronavirus. We pray to seek direction from the Lord.
Do we give? One of the blessings of the Christian life is giving and then, experiencing God provide for our needs.
I could list other ways to be obedient but you get the idea. There are blessings involved in being obedient.
There is an old hymn we sing that speaks to the blessings of obedience. It goes;
“When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word.
What a glory He sheds on our way!
When we do His good will, he abides with us still.
And with all who will trust and obey.”
Trust and obey, For there’s no other way,
To be happy in Jesus; But to trust and obey.”

Today and in the days to come, trust the Lord and experience the blessings of obedience.
