A Life Of Good Deeds

Christians are saved by grace through faith not as a result of works… That verse means you can’t work your way into heaven. But it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do anything for the Lord. In fact, Paul does on to say, “…we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”
But what are good works? Proverbs 11:30 says, “… The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life.” Think about those words. What are “good deeds?”
Good deeds are the things we do to help our fellow man. Good deeds represent how we live our lives.
Good deeds represent being honest. Are we honest with others or, are we known for dishonesty? Stretching the truth?
Good deeds represent helping our fellow man. What are we doing to help others? Do we help those who are needy?
Some may serve in their local church and in doing so, their service is a good deed.
The movie “Open Range” stars Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner. They encounter a wealthy land-owner named “Baxter” and ultimately there is a shoot-out. At the end,      Baxter is shot and lies dying.
Duvall’s character says, “You best make peace with your bad deeds.”
This man had lived a life filled with bad deeds…
We need to live a life filled with good deeds. Proverbs says our good deeds become a “tree of life.”
What kind of deeds are our lives producing? Good or bad?
Today, with the Lord’s help, live a life filled with good deeds.
