Jesus Still Heals

A few weeks ago I strained a muscle in my back. That sucker hurt! It hurt to drive to work. It hurt to sit up straight in a chair. Thankfully, it is much better now but, when it was hurting, I might have gone to see a witch doctor if that would have helped. (I’m kidding… sort of) . My point is, when we are sick or if our children are sick, we will do whatever we can to get some relief.
When Jesus was on earth, He was healing people who had lost all hope of being healed. When word got out that Jesus was healing, as the word spread, people were coming from all over the area to be healed by Jesus. In Mark 6, the Bible says, “After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. They brought the boat to shore and climbed out. The people recognized Jesus at once, and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard he was. Wherever he went—in villages, cities, or the countryside—they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.”
People were coming from everywhere to be healed and… if they couldn’t get to Jesus, they were content to just touch the hem of His garment. They had faith… they believed that Jesus could heal!
Jesus is still healing people today. How does Jesus heal? Do you go to a church service and go down front and let someone pray over you and instanteously you are healed? No. I would be skeptical of that.
Today, Jesus heals through Physicians who prescribe appropriate medicine or surgery performed by a skilled surgeon. Or, if someone has a drug or alcohol problem, they can be healed by going through a good rehab program.
If someone is struggling emotionally they can be healed through proper counseling or through medication.
Can someone just pray and ask the Lord to heal them and they are automatically healed? Yes, I’m sure it can happen but I don’t know that it happens a ton. I think the Lord gives us common sense and wants us to see physicians. And yes, there are times when a Physician has done everything they can do and someone . miraculously rallies for an extended time or, someone’s tests come back negative.
I don’t want to debate how healing takes place. Let’s just focus on the fact that Jesus can and does heal. One of my mentors, Bro. Bob Self once said, “Jesus is the beginning of the answer to every problem you may face.” Amen and Amen!
