Life Is Short – Be Prepared

A few weeks ago Kobe Bryant, NBA legend passed away when he and his daughter were involved in a tragic helicopter crash. I don’t know exactly how old Kobe was but he was way too young to die. Sports fans were shocked to learn of Kobe’s passing along with his daughter.
But, his death is a reminder to all of us of the brevity of life. Although the life expectancy of the average person in the United States is probably early seventies, we aren’t promised another day. Kobe’s death reminds us of that.
Psalms 39:4 says, “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is.”
So, although we don’t like to talk about it, how do we prepare for death? First, we trust Christ as Savior. That’s the most important. Second, we live for Christ.
No one is perfect and we all make mistakes but, all of us should strive to live for Christ. That means guarding our tongue… it means helping others… it means being filled with the Holy Spirit so that the fruit of the Spirit is evident in our lives.
Kobe Bryant’s death is a reminder that life can be brief and each one of us need to be prepared. Are you prepared? If not, don’t wait. Do it today.
