Guard Your Heart

We live in a very health-conscious day. I have a fitbit on my left arm that my family got me for Christmas. It monitors how many steps I take and it goes off when I reach those steps. But why are the number of steps I take so important? it’s because walking a certain number of steps is a way to help with physical fitness. And we want to be more fit because it helps our heart .
But the heart is not just about physical fitness. The Bible says the heart is the seat of all our emotions and desires. Everything flows out of the heart.
Jesus said in Matthew 15:19-20,”For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.”
Everything that happens in this world, originates in the heart. Every murder, every robbery, every rape, every lie, every scheme, every bad word, every bad movie, every extra-marital affair… every bit of it starts in the heart. Which is why we need to guard our hearts.
How do we do that? We need to be careful what goes into our hearts. If you have a bad thought, stop and ask the Lord for forgiveness. Be careful what you watch and listen to and the people you hang around with.
Proverbs 24:3 says, “Guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.”
We may wear a watch or some device that monitors our steps. Our conscience guards our hearts.
