“Blessed Are The Poor… Because They Realize They Need God”

Jesus Christ.
Greatest person in history.
The most revered person in history…
So, what did Jesus teach? Well, He actually taught a life-style that was counter-cultural. In a section of Matthew’s gospel that is known as “the Beatitudes,” Jesus lays out several basic steps to living for Christ. The first step is, “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”
Ok, think about that verse… “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him…” We don’t normally associate someone being “poor” with being a good thing. Most people who are poor are wishing they had more. Some may even begin to take steps in life to try to get out of poverty.
But Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor and realize their need for Him.” But Jesus isn’t referring to being poor financially. He is referring to someone who is humble… someone who realizes they need Christ. And that is a huge step for many people.
America is a land where if you are willing to work hard you can become successful but, the drive that leads one to become successful, can also prevent that person from realizing they need God. I mean, if you have money, why would you need God? If you have a good job, why would you need God?
And that’s how some think. And because of that, at times, someone has to be knocked down… flat of their back… they have to become poor in order to realize they need God.
So, if you have been knocked down… you are in a good place. Because it’s there that you may be willing to listen to God and if you are, you can begin the process of getting your life right.
“Blessed are the poor… for they realize they need God.”
