Be Persistent – Fight Like The Third Monkey Trying To Get On The Ark

“Fight like the third monkey trying to get on the ark.”
I saw that sticker on a vehicle a couple of weeks back. As I read it, I chuckled. Picture in your mind, three monkeys about to get on the ark. One will have to be left behind… so, there is a pretty good fight… One monkey is literally fighting for his life. If he gets left off the boat, he will die in the flood.
I thought about that sticker this morning as I read Genesis six and seven which gives us the account of the flood. God was saddened that He made man so He decided to start over. He told Noah to build an ark and Noah and his family and animals would board the ark and there, they would be kept safely until the flood was over.
“Fight like the third monkey trying to get on the ark…” that statement is a reminder to us to be persistent. To hang in there. To not quit.
It may be that you are trying to do something and you’ve gotten frustrated. You are about to quit. Don’t do it… Hang in there. Paul said in Galations 6:9, “Do not grow weary in well doing, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary.” That verse is a reminder to us to hang in there.
There is a poem that I love that speaks to this;
“When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns
And many a failure comes about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out—
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit—
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.”
So don’t quit… fight like the third monkey trying to get on the ark.
