Our heart is where any kind of spiritual journey begins. Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind.”
Jesus also told us to “guard our hearts for out of it grows all our thoughts.”
The heart is the center of our will and emotions. For a person to become a Christian, they have to give their heart to Christ. I’m doing so, they are committing themselves to Jesus. So, our spiritual journey begins in the heart.
If a persons heart is hardened, that person will not see the need to repent. There heart must be softened to the point they will see the need to change.
Hosea says, “Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come” (Hosea 10:12).
Think about that verse, “Plow up the hard ground of the heart.” Our heart can become so hardened, it must be broken. The Lord has plowed up my heart some. I had some arrogance and bad attitudes in my heart but God put me on my back and softened me up.
What about you? Has God plowed up the hard ground of your heart? If God is speaking to you, it may be that hard ground Of your heart is preventing you from responding.
Sometimes it may take the loss of a job to soften our heart. Or, maybe a medical issue. Or maybe a divorce or bankruptcy. God can get our attention but it’s far better if we will just listen to God. So, if God is speaking to you, listen to Him. Don’t force God to break up the hard ground of your heart.
