How Can Man’s Sins Be Forgiven?

Our faith, the Christian faith, teaches that anyone can have their sins forgiven. But how does that happen? Let’s go back to the Old Testament to understand that.
In the Old Testament, there was a place called the “Holy of Holies.” In the “Holy of Holies,” there was a chest and there was a cover for the chest that was known as the “mercy seat.” Every year, a man known as the “Great High Priest,” would slay a lamb and drain the blood of that lamb into a bowl. The Great High Priest would then take that bowl and go into the Holy of Holies.”
In the Holy of Holies, the Great High Priest would sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat. When He did that, he was making atonement for the sins of the people. The word “atonement” means “covering” so, he was covering the sins of the people. This process had to be repeated every year.
Now, fast forward to the New Testament. Jesus Christ gave His life to die on the cross. When He died on the cross, He replaced the lamb that was slain in the Old Testament.       When Jesus died, the blood He shed replaced the blood that was sprinkled on the mercy seat in the Old Testament. And, when Jesus died, His death paid the sin debt once and for all. In the Old Testament, the Great High Priest went into the Holy of Holies every year on the Day of Atonement. In the New Testament, Jesus died once and paid the debt off.
Because of Jesus death, man can have sins forgiven. Someone may ask how that happens? In order for man to have sins forgiven, he must admit he or she is a sinner, repent of those sins (be sorry for them) and simply ask Jesus Christ to come into their heart and forgive them.
Now, someone may say, “Come on dude, I’ve done some bad stuff… You mean to tell me I can be forgiven just like that?”
Yes, I am. You CAN be forgiven.
Now, you may continue to suffer the consequences of your sin but from a spiritual standpoint, your sins are forgiven, if you ask.
Jesus Christ has done everything that needs to be done for any of us to be forgiven. We simply must believe in Jesus.
Now, someone may ask, “Ok, when you believe in Jesus, how are your sins forgiven?” Jesus comes into your heart and forgives you. It’s that simple.
Today, it doesn’t matter what mistakes you have made, you can be forgiven. You can! You must admit you are a sinner, confess your sins and ask Jesus for forgiveness and your sins are forgiven.
This is the greatest example of love man has ever known.
