I have written this post twice. The first draft had a list of things from the Bible that I believe should mark a Christian. But I was convicted about it. The last thing I want to do is create a list for Christians to check off to indicate they are a believer. So, I changed the post.
In I John 4:20, John says, “Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live.” That’s a tough verse….very tough. But although it is tough, it is very true.
Now, let’s think about our lives. Do we deny knowing the Lord by the way we live? How do we treat our fellow man? Are we kind to others? Do we have a desire to read God’s word and learn more about our Lord?
What about our mouth? Are we guilty of gossiping?
There are most definitely principles in Scripture that are true and that we should build our lives on. And there are times when we are called to take a stand right and wrong. But the over-arching theme of every Christian, the thing that should drive us is love. That is who Jesus was and is. We should be marked by love.
I believe the world will know we are followers of Christ if we are marked by the love of Jesus.
