Judgment Day

Recently I was talking with someone about death… about what happens when we die. This individual said, “I believe we are just gone… we just cease to exist.” I did offer a word of correction but this individual doesn’t believe in God so it kind of fell on deaf ears.
Let’s consider that question; What does happen when we die? Well, that is a pretty deep subject and I can’t cover it all in one blog post but, there will be some form of judgment day. I say “some form” because Christians interpret this differently. Most Christians that I’m familiar with believe there will be a day of reckoning; a day of judgment. But, many aren’t sure what that day will look like.
In II Timothy 4, the apostle Paul refers to judgment day when he says, “… who will someday judge the living and the dead when he comes to set up his Kingdom..”
Focus on the words “someday will judge the living and the dead.” Paul knew that there was coming a day of judgment. He sounded as if he wasn’t sure when because he said “someday”… but he knew judgment was coming. Paul may have been thinking about judgment day because he was about to die.
So; question for each of us – are we ready for judgment day? In order to be ready we must all do two things;
First, be sure of our salvation.
Second, live for Christ.
Are you certain of your salvation? Has there been a time when you trusted Christ as your Savior? If so, you are ready there.
But are you living for Christ? None of us are perfect… all of us have made mistakes… but that’s not the issue… what are we doing now for the Lord? If you were to stand before the Lord today, what does your life look like? Are you serving Christ in some capacity? Are you helping your fellow man? Are you giving? Are you kind to others?
There is coming a day of judgment when we will all give an account of our lives to the Lord. We need to make sure we are saved and that we are living for Christ. And if so, we are ready. If not, I urge you to take care of business before it’s too late.
