For many people it only brings regret and pain. We made mistakes in the past but we would rather not be reminded of them. In fact, any time someone brings up our past or, our minds roll to the past, we normally don’t feel good. The past can hurt.
We’ve all made mistakes – every last one of us. But we don’t want to be reminded of it constantly. Yes, the past is there. We are aware of our past but we would rather not deal with it. It hurts too much.
In Philippians 3, the apostle says “this one thing I do….forgetting what lies behind…I press on…”.
Paul had an impressive resume so he had quite a bit to forget.
Forgetting what is behind…”. Some of us may need to do that..
The flip side of this is maybe you are hanging on to some good memories. Maybe you love to talk about something in the past. Don’t dwell on the past. Those years are done.
Someone has said “If all you do is talk about the past, you aren’t doing anything in the present.”
I encourage you today to put the past behind. Stop living there. All it does is bring up bad memories.
With the Lord’s help
