What does it mean to live a spirit-filled life? Every now and then you may hear someone say, “I’m just filled with the spirit” and that is good. The apostle Paul said, “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit…” (Eph 5:18).
So what does that mean? When a person trusts Christ as savior the Holy Spirit comes into their life. Then, the Spirit begins working in their life.
So HOW is a person filled with or led by the spirit? On a daily basis, we have to turn our lives over to the Lord. Every day we have to conscientiously allow the Spirit to work. It doesn’t happen automatically.
Our old flesh is still active. And it leads us to be selfish and filled with lust. That flesh has to die every day. Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ (Gal 2:20).”
So every day, we have a choice – be filled with the spirit or be controlled by the flesh. It’s our choice. Living by the Spirit is the best choice. It leads to love, joy, peace and patience.
