Let The Lord Handle Revenge

Someone hurts you. They say something about you or do something to you. You react in the way any human would – you want revenge! You want to get even with them!
But, you are a Christian and getting even isn’t an option. So, what do we do? How do we react when someone hurts us?
In Romans 12, the apostle Paul said, “Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable…Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God…”
“Never pay back evil with more evil…” That runs completely counter to the prevailing thoughts of our day. As humans, we want to get even!
But Jesus said.. do the opposite. Now, someone may say, “Ok, I hear you… I understand what I’m supposed to do but, come on man, do you realize how difficult it is to NOT retaliate? Yes I do. And it is tough. And the only way we can do that, is by being filled with the Holy Spirit. It’s the only way.
Because when someone hurts you… you want to lash out. You want REVENGE!
Instead, Paul said leave revenge to God.
This may be one of the most difficult things to do as a Christian. And the only we can do it is with power from our Lord. Jesus modeled this for us on the cross. From the cross He cried out, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).
Today, strive to be filled with the spirit and let the Lord handle revenge. I know.. it’s tough. Let’s pray for one another.
