“Conflicts Without Fears Within”

A lady bought a parakeet…took it home and sat it on it’s perch. She named it “Tweety bird.”
One day, Tweety Bird’s owner decided to clean its cage. She removed the attachment from the end of the hose and stuck it in the cage.
The phone rang and she turned to pick it up.  She’d barely said “hello” when “sssop!” Tweety Bird got sucked in.
Tweety Bird’s owner gasped, put down the phone, turned off the vacuum, and opened the bag.  There was Tweety Bird – still alive, but stunned.
Since Tweety Bird was covered with dust and soot, she grabbed him and raced to the bathroom, turned on the faucet and held Tweety Bird under the running water.  Then realizing that Tweety Bird was soaked and shivering, she did what any compassionate bird owner would do? she reached for the hair dryer and blasted Tweety Bird with hot air.
A few days later Tweety Bird’s owner saw a friend who knew about the whole deal. The friend asked how the bird was? The lady replied, “Well Tweety Bird doesn’t sing much anymore.”
Some of us can identify with Tweety Bird…maybe we have been sucked in and blown over by life.
Life is filled with ups and downs and at times, we may think there are more downs than ups. We lose jobs. Our pay gets cut. We go through divorce. I was chatting with a friend recently who has separated from their spouse. It’s been a tough time for them.
When we go through tough times, we may think we are the only ones that feel that way. But that is not true. The apostle Paul went through lots of adversity.
As Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, he told them of a time in his past when he was in Macedonia. Paul said, “For even when we came into Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted on every side: conflicts without, fears within.(II Cor 7:5)
“Conflicts without…fears within…”. Paul said, “our flesh had no rest….” Think about that… most of us have been there or somewhere similar before. We have had, “conflicts within and fears within.”
When this happens what do we do? Paul said, “But God who comforts the depressed…comforted us by the coming of Titus..” God comforts the depressed and God will comfort us.
So, if you are down…discouraged…you have “conflicts without and fears within..” God wants to comfort you. But how does He do it?
He may do it through His word…maybe scripture will comfort you. He may comfort you through a friend…Paul said Titus comforted him. He may comfort you through music.
If you have, “conflicts without and fears within..” God wants to help us sing again.
