When Your Spirits Are Crushed

Years ago, ABC Sports had a show that came on every Saturday, I believe. It was known as “The Wide World Of Sports.” The hows always opened with clips of various highs and lows of sports. And, there was a voice-over that went… “the thrill of victory… and the agony of defeat.” Anyone who was followed a team or has played sports has known “… the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”
When we experience the “agony of defeat,” our spirits are crushed.
Proverbs 18:14 says, “The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit.”
Think about that…a crushed spirit. I’ve been there and I know many others have been as well.
When your spirit is crushed, you easily go into depression. You don’t want to do anything… you sit around and watch tv or movies… you don’t have the energy to get up and do anything.
When your spirit is crushed, you can easily begin to be skeptical about people. You don’t trust people.
When your spirit is crushed, you have difficulty believing there is hope ahead.
Most of us have had a moment or perhaps several moments, when our spirits are crushed. So, what do we do when that happens?
We ask the Lord to give us strength and slowly, we get up. We may not run any races just yet but we get up and begin moving forward. Slowly… one step at a time… but we move.
Today, it may be that your spirits are crushed. You are down. If so, know that the Lord loves you. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, you can be forgiven if you ask the Lord and the Lord will help lift you up if your spirits are crushed.
