God – Our Place Of Refuge

In the movie, “Remember the Titans,” there is a scene where the Principal of the school (I think that’s correct) is telling Coach Boone that he had just found out if he lost one game that year, the school board was going to fire him. As they are talking, they are at the football field and the lights come on. As they do, Coach Boone says… “Ah… this is my sanctuary right here…Away from all the hate…”
For Coach Boone, the football field was somewhat a place of safety and refuge . Everyone needs a place of safety or calm. We need a refuge. A place to get away from everything and just relax and feel safe.
The Psalmist said in Psalm 141:8, “I look to you for help, O Sovereign Lord. You are my refuge.”
We can all find refuge in the Lord. Ok, how is that? we find refuge by trusting the Lord.
We find refuge by reading God’s word and following it’s commands.
We find refuge with Christian friends.
We may have a spot… a place in our house…. or in the woods… or by the lake… that is a place of refuge for us. For deer-hunters, a place of refuge might be their tree-stand during deer season.
Our place of refuge may be our deck… and a cup of coffee, first thing sin the morning.
Today, if you need a place of refuge… you can find it in the Lord. He is our place of refuge 24/7/365.
