Living The Abundant Life

How do you live the Christian life? What is being a Christian all about? Unfortunately, over the years, being a Christian has become more about the things we aren’t supposed to do. We’ve had a tendency to focus on the “Thou shall not’s.” And, there are things we should abstain from… There are things we shouldn’t do.
But simply not doing something is not the best way to live the Christian life. Jesus said, “The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
Jesus wants us to have the abundant life. What is the abundant life? It is the fruit of the spirit being manifest in our lives. It is a live of joy and peace. The world tells us if you want to enjoy life, you have to drink… you have to get wasted… go on a shopping spree… etc. But for the Christian, enjoying life is being filled with the Spirit of God.
What about you? Are you enjoying life? Or, do you focus on the “thou shall not’s.” There are some things we shouldn’t do but there are lots of things we can do. Focus on those and may you enjoy the peace and happiness and contentment of living for Christ.
Last night, Holli and I were watching a re-run of NCIS. One of the female characters was going through some therapy and the therapist hit something that she felt like needed to be discussed.
The character said, “This would be a good time to go get a drink.”
For her, happiness and peace would come through alcohol soothing her nerves. We don’t have to have alcohol to sooth our nerves; the Holy Spirit will do just fine. Live the abundant life today.
