We Don’t Have To Be Haunted By Our Sins In The Past

In the movie “Patriot,” Mel Gibson plays the role of Benjamin Martin, a Revolutionary War soldier. He has a reputation has a tough warrior because he fought in the French and Indian war for Great Britain.
One night, he is sitting with son at a campfire. His son asks him to tell him about his past. He hasn’t wanted to do that but this time, he opens up.
He says, “I have long feared that my sins would return to haunt me and the cost would be more than I could bear.”
Do you ever feel that way? Do you ever feel like your sins of the past could come back to haunt you?”
Even though Jesus forgives us of things, there are times we can be reminded of sins of the past and we may even question if we can be forgiven. Well, we can be forgiven .
In Psalms 103, the Psalmist talks about the love of God. He then says, “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west” (Psalms 103:12).
So, when God forgives us, God removes our sins as far as the east is from the west. How far is the east from the west? It’s infinite… It never stops.
Corrie Ten Boom once said that God throws our sins into the deepest part of the ocean and puts up a sign that reads “No fishing.”
So, have you messed up in the past? Most of us have. If you have asked the Lord for forgiveness, you are are forgiven. And, when the devil wants to remind of your past, remind him your sins are forgiven and God tossed them into the deepest part of the ocean. You are free to live in victory.. your old sins are forgiven and gone.
