The Blessing Of Aaron

When we were kids, if we went to church-camp or maybe basketball camp or something similar, just before leaving, our Parents would normally pull us aside and give us a hug and tell us to have a good and behave ourselves. When we were younger, there may have been a few tears shed. Although we didn’t call it that, this was somewhat like a blessing. Our parents were telling us they hoped we had a good week. At times, a Parent may even pray for their child just before leaving.
In Numbers 6:24-26 we find what is referred to as “the Aaronic blessing.” It is called that because it was spoken by Aaron. The Lord spoke to Moses and told him to tell Aaron and his sons to pronounce this blessing on Israel. It is a beautiful blessing;

“May the Lord bless you
and protect you.
May the Lord smile on you
and be gracious to you.
May the Lord show you his favor
and give you his peace.’”

Think about those words…
“May the Lord bless you and protect you… “ Israel was about to go into a new land. They needed the blessing and protection of God. We need it as well. It may be that you are starting something new. Maybe it’s a new job… you have asked for the Lord’s blessing.

“May the Lord smile on you and be gracious…”. The Lord smiles on us when we are walking with Him. Are you walking with the Lord today? I’m not saying God doesn’t love us if we aren’t walking with Him but, we are more pleasing to the Lord more when we are walking with Him.

“May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace….” The favor of the Lord is God’s blessing and God’s provision…. And, the Lord will give us peace if we are walking with Him.

Think about what the Lord promises…
His blessings…
Protection…
To Smile On Us..
To be gracious to us…
To show us His favor…
To give us His peace.

I don’t know about you, but I can use each one of those today. But, to receive those, we must be obedient to our Lord. God’s way is always the best way. Pray for the Lord’s blessing.. protection… grace… favor and peace today.
