In the TV mini-series “Return To Lonesome Dove,” Captain Woodrow Call is planning to round up a herd of horses to drive them to Montana. Accomplishing such a task is going to be tough. In one scene, a man who is a former Texas Ranger says to Captain Call, “Woodrow, what you are talking about doing ‘ain’t going to be easy.”
Woodrow responds, “Nothing worth doing is easy.”
He’s right… anything worth doing is going to be tough.
Is there something you are thinking about doing but you haven’t started yet because you now it’s going to be tough? Don’t let the task being tough stop you. Most anything worth-while is going to be tough but that doesn’t stop us.. or at least, it shouldn’t.
In Numbers 2, God is giving Moses instructions on setting up the camp. In Exodus, in the last of ten plagues God would send on Egypt, God caused the first-born of the Egyptians to die. When Israel left Egypt, God was now requiring their first-born in exchange for their freedom from Egypt. But, instead taking the first-born, God is setting aside the Levites in place of the first-born. He tells Moses to count all the firstborn sons in Israel who are one month old and older. Then, He tells Moses the Levites are going to be reserved as substitutes for first-born. This is a reminder that freedom costs…
Anything worth doing costs. You want to lose weight? You are going to have to exercise and change your eating… it costs.
You want to save money? You are going to have put some money aside and not buy some things you may want… it costs.
You want to walk with Jesus? You need to spend time in His word to become more like Him… it costs.
You want to be a great athlete? You have to work-out… harder than everyone else… it costs.
You want good grades in school? You have to study and perhaps study harder than everyone else… it costs.
“Woodrow, what you are talking about doing ‘ain’t going to be easy,” said Ranger Gideon Walker.
“Nothing worth doin’ is easy,” replied Captain Woodrow ‘Call.
Don’t let the fact that something will be tough to do stop you from doing something you would like to do or need to do.
