“Greatest” In The Kingdom Of God

“I am the greatest!”
Former heavy-weight champion Mohammad Ali used to bellow, “I am the greatest!” And he was a great fighter.
In life, what does it mean to be “the greatest?” I guess it depends on who you ask. A non-Christian may say, “Being the greatest means making good money and having a good job… ”
However, a Christian’s response should be different. A Christian should say that being “the greatest,” means service. That’s what Jesus taught us 2,000 years ago. Being “the greatest” means service.
Jesus had heard his disciples talking along the way so He asked them what they were discussing? The disciples didn’t want to say anything because they knew they were wrong. So, Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”
Jesus was saying that if we want to be great in the kingdom of God, we should serve. Ok, HOW should we serve? We should be willing to do whatever it takes…. including menial tasks… for the Lord.
Lots of people want to serve on the personnel or finance committee. Those are committees that are perceived as “important”. Fewer people want to work in the nursery.       Every Christian should be doing something in the form of service.
And, I might add; this means being willing to do menial tasks outside of church. Maybe you are in management in your work. Perhaps you think you are “above” doing “small”tasks because well, you are now a manager. You aren’t just a regular guy.       Someone else can do that stuff now, or so you think.
Being a servant means being willing to do whatever it takes.
Jesus said, “You guys want to be great? Ok, be a servant. That’s the key to greatness in the kingdom of God.”
