Just a four-letter word but a powerful word.
Hope means there is a chance…
Hope tries to strengthen us and tell us to hang on…
Hope may be a friend who calls and just says, “Just wanted you to know that I was thinking about you.”
Hope may be someone giving you some money.
Hope is being told you are wanted for a job interview.
All of the things above represent hope. But, the absolute best source of hope is in the Lord. The Psalmist said in Psalm 42:5, “Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence.”
It is very possible that this Psalm was written by Hezekiah and when he was sick. He pours out his heart to the Lord and says, “Why are you in despair, O my soul?”
I don’t know about you, but I can identify with Hezekiah. Life can knock you for a loop. Your soul can be in despair. Yet, Hezekiah gives us the answer for a soul in despair. He says, “Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence.”
There are lots of places we may turn for hope or help but ultimately, the absolute best source and only reliable source is the Lord. God is always there, 24/7/365.
What is your source of hope today? Is it your bank account? Is it your network of friends? Your resume? Your nice job with it’s benefits? All of those things are nice but, and I don’t want to be a “Debbie-downer” here but, all of those will let you down. The only, true, legit, never-let-you-down sore of hope is the Lord. Put your hope in the Lord today.
