Does Our Stuff Mean More Than It Should?

Years ago, there was a bumper sticker that you would see on automobiles at times. It read, “The one who dies with the most toys wins.” That expression referred to the priorities of a materialistic society. We Americans love our stuff. Whether it’s technology or nice features in our automobiles or clothes… we love our stuff.
But how much stuff do we win? I think it’s safe to say that in most cases, we don’t need as much as most of us have.
I John 2:15 says, “Do not love the world or things in the world.” John is referring to things… But, let’s be honest; we like our stuff.
I confess that I love technology. I love new computers… or a new phone or a new gadget. I would love to have an Apple Watch. I haven’t bought one because we can’t afford one. But. do I really need an Apple Watch? No, I don’t. I can function perfectly fine without one.
Question; do you love your stuff… your gadgets more than the Lord? “Oh,no,” you may say, “Jesus is first for me!”
I hope He is. But are you tithing? If you aren’t, Jesus isn’t first in your life. I think all of us need to back away and take a look at our lives. Does our stuff mean more to us than it should? If it does… and in many cases, if we are honest, it will… we to put Christ first.        Today, evaluate you’re life. If your stuff… means more than it should, we may need to consider getting rid of some stuff.
