Putting A Square Peg In A Round Hole For Jesus

“Think outside the box.”
I’m sure you are familiar with that statement. It means that we should think creatively. We shouldn’t let normal parameters limit us. If something won’t fix in a box, so to speak, ok, think outside the box. Be willing to get creative to get something done. I love to think outside the box and I like people who will think outside the box. Just because something hasn’t been done before, doesn’t mean we can’t do it IF, we will think outside the box.
In Mark 2:1-5, we find an example of some people who thought outside the box. Jesus was in Capernaum. Because word about Him was spreading, the house he was in, was full. Well, there were four men who came to the house carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring the man to Jesus because the house was full.
Ok, at this point, these guys could have said, “Buddy, we are sorry. We really wanted to get you to Jesus but the house is full. We are sorry.”
Instead, these guys were determined! They went to the top of the house, cut a hole in the roof and began lowering the man to Jesus. When Jesus saw this He healed the man.
Can you imagine that? Let’s imagine that you are one of the people in the house. All of a sudden you see a man being lowered to Jesus. You think to yourself, “Wow, these guys are determined!”
We must have that same determination if we are going to win people to Christ. We must be willing to think outside the box… do whatever it takes to reach people. Just because “we’ve never done it that way before,” doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
Is there something you have been thinking about doing but, it’s something that will require “outside the box” thinking? Don’t let that stop you. Get creative!
There is a scene in the. movie Apollo 13 that I like. A group of engineers walk into a room and one guy says, “Ok gentlemen, we have to find a way to make this fit into this.” They were basically told to make a square peg fit into a round hole.
We must do the same… to reach people for Jesus.
