The Only Person Who Will Never Let You Down Is Jesus

One of the most difficult experiences anyone can go through is having a friend turn against them. Our friends are people we enjoy being with. We laugh with them. We weep with them. We share our hearts with them. Because of that, they are special to us. So, if a friend turns against us, it can really sting.
In Psalm 35, the Psalmist experienced this. The text says, “Malicious witnesses testify against me. They accuse me of crimes I know nothing about. They repay me evil for good. I am sick with despair. Yet when they were ill, I grieved for them. I denied myself by fasting for them, but my prayers returned unanswered.I was sad, as though they were my friends or family, as if I were grieving for my own mother.”
Think about those words… “Malicious witnesses testify against me…” Ok, that experience is certainly not good but, it happens… But what makes it worse.. is that those “malicious witnesses” were friends of the Psalmist. He says, “… Yet when they were ill, I grieved for them.” So, these were people the Psalmist knew well. So, it stung… it hurt deeply when they turned against him.
Maybe you have experienced this… Maybe you have had a friend… or someone you thought was a friend, turn against you. When that happens, what do you?
You do the only thing you can do… you move on. Oh, you can dwell on the loss of the friend… and I’ve done that… but dwelling on it doesn’t do any good.
Understand this; people will let you down. If that’s too pessimistic, I am sorry. But it’s a fact; people will let you down.
The only. person who will never let you down is Jesus. That’s it! Only Jesus. So, as the Bible says in Hebrews… “Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2).
