The Secret To Long & Healthy Living

Everyone wants to live a long and good life. In order to do that we try to eat right and exercise regularly. But those things are physical… we take care of our bodies physically if we eat right and exercise. Mental and spiritual preparation are also needed.
In Psalm 34, the Psalmist asks, “Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous?” Then, the Psalmist explains how we can do it. He says, “Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”
Think about those things…
“Keep your tongue from speaking evil…” He’s talking about starting or repeating gossip. We should guard our tongues.. we should not create drama by gossiping.
“Turn away from evil and do good.” I’ve heard of people who, at some point in their lives, they began to hang around with the wrong people and that decision ultimately cost them their lives. If you are confronted with the opportunity to do evil… turn away from it. It doesn’t matter how much money you may be able to make.. turn away from it.
“Search for peace and work to maintain it..” When a person is bitter, it has a negative impact on our health. It can lead to high blood pressure. It can cause us to have stomach issues or headaches. When we are bitter, our muscles can become more tense.. All of that has an impact on our health. Instead of being bitter, the writer says, “… Search for peace and work to maintain it.
Doing these things does not guarantee. that we will live long lives but, it certainly doesn’t hurt. It will improve the quality of our lives.
So, guard your tongue, stay away from evil and seek peace. These three things will help us live longer and happier lives.
