Guarding Our Heart

“Garbage in, garbage out.”
That’s a phrase that is used to express the idea that in computing and other spheres, incorrect or poor quality input will always produce faulty output.
Let’s apply that to the spiritual realm of life. Jesus said, “For out of the of heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders…”
So, everything we do grows out of our hearts. So, we need to monitor our hearts. In addition to taking care of our heart, the physical organ, we should guard our hearts because it is wellspring of life. How do we do that?
We need to monitor what goes into our heart. I strongly encourage you to read the Bible. Set aside fifteen minutes each morning and start your day reading God’s word. Read the Bible or listen to it on a CD or a podcast. You could download YouVersion and listen to it on your commute.
We need to spend time in prayer and ask the Lord to help you guard your heart.
We need to be careful what we are watching on TV or at the movies.
While preparing dinner, a teenage girl asked her Mom if she go to the movies with some friends. Her Mom told her “No” because she had heard the movie was bad.. as in… trashy. The teenage girl became angry.
Her Mother reached over in the sink and took some of the stuff out that she was throwing away and she put it in her daughter’s salad. Stuff like wilted lettuce, spoiled tomatoes, etc…
When the young lady sat down to eat, she noticed the trash in her salad. She said, “Ooooh, Mom! There is trash in my salad!”
The Mom replied, “Well, since you wanted to go see a trashy movie, I didn’t think you would mind some trash in your salad.”
Good point Mom!
Guard your heart… it is the wellspring of life.
