Don’t Put A Square Peg In A Round Hole

There is an old expression that goes, “Don’t put a square peg in a round hole.”
It essentially means, “Don’t force something.”
A square peg is not meant to go into a round hole unless the hole is cut out.         Sometimes, we try to force that kind of thing and we shouldn’t.
The same is true regarding God’s will for our lives.
Maybe there is a decision we are trying to make. We sense that we know what God wants us to do but that it isn’t what we want to do. So, we kind of force the issue and we do what we want instead of God what wants. And, it doesn’t work out.
In Genesis, God had promised Abram that, if he would follow Him, God would bless Him and He would make his descendants as numerous as the stars in the heavens. But, Abram was getting older and nothing was happened So, Sarah, Abram’s wife, took matters into her own hands.
She told Abram to have sex with her concubine, Hagar. Sarai knew that God had promised Abram descendants but thus far, Sarai was barren. So, she thought she would help God out and that is always a mistake. So, Hagar had sex with Abraham and Ishmael was born and this was not God’s will.
Maybe you are trying to make a decision. You are praying but you can’t get any direction. You are tired of waiting so you take the initiative thinking you know what God wants. I don’t understand all of God’s ways but I do know this… it is ALWAYS best to be in the center of God’s will.
In fact, someone has said, “The safest place for a Christian to be is in the center of God’s will.”
Today, if you are praying for God’s will in something, don’t force the issue. If God hasn’t answered, we need to wait on God.
Now, you my say, “Why has God not answered my prayer?”
It could be that although what you are praying for is good…. maybe you aren’t ready yet. So, although it is tough at times, wait on the lord. It’s always best.
