It has led to the downfall of many people.
It can lead a person to be unwilling to ask for help because it may embarrass them to admit they need help.
It can lead a person to refuse to admit they made a mistake.
Pride can prevent someone from receiving Christ.. it can prevent someone from humbly confessing their sin and receiving Christ as Savior.
It can lead the leadership of a church, that enjoyed great years in the past, from admitting they are dying and must change.
The Bible says of pride, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” In the book of Obadiah, the prophet is speaking to the people of Edom about her pride.
The people of Edom prided themselves on their great wealth and in their almost impregnable position geographically. Yet, God said He would bring Edom down. God says of Edom, “The arrogance of your heart has deceived you; You who live in the clefts of the rock, in the loftiness of your dwelling place, Who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to earth?'”
Is pride preventing you from admitting you made a mistake? Is pride preventing you from humbly asking forgiveness of your sins and receiving Christ?
Is pride preventing you from admitting you have made mistakes in your marriage?
The opposite of pride is humility. Jesus said in Matthew 5:3, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
On one occasion Jesus held up a child and said, “Anyone who would come into the kingdom of heaven, must come as a child” (Matt. 18:3).
Today don’t let pride keep you from admitting a mistake. Don’t let pride keep your from asking for help. Humble yourself and receive the help and forgiveness Jesus can give.
