Let The Lord Use You To Comfort Someone

Today is Sunday… a day when many Christians will attend worship. They will drive to a local church, park their vehicle, get their Bibles and they will go into the sanctuary. As they do, they may be greeted by several people.
Someone may say, “How are you doing? We are so glad you’re here!”
The person may think, “Do you really want to know how I’m doing? I have bills to pay and I don’t know where the money is coming from. My husband and I aren’t getting along very well… etc…”
Those people, although they smile and make everyone think that life is just great!, need comfort.
Every person, at times, needs comfort.
Maybe they have lost a loved one and a friend drops by to see them or calls them to offer comfort. Or, maybe they lost a job or, they are having marital or family problems. The list could go on and on…
As I type this, I think of a former-classmate of mine who dated a boy for years. He was her dream. He was tall and handsome.
But somewhere along the way, they got a divorce and while I wasn’t living in that area when it happened, I’m sure my friend needed comfort during those times.
In II Thessalonians 2:16-17, the apostle Paul said, “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace…comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.”
Paul is praying that the Lord will comfort his friends in Thessalonica. Just as the Lord comforted them, the Lord will comfort us. But how does God do it?
He does it through the power of His word. He does through the power of His Holy Spirit. He does it through people… Maybe God has impressed on you someone who is hurting. God may want you to reach out to comfort those people.
Today, be sensitive to those around you who need comfort. Let the Lord use you to comfort someone today.
