“Forgetting What Lies Behind… I Press On”

Do you have some skeletons in the closet? Are there some things you did in the past that you aren’t proud of? Are there some decisions you made that you wish you had another shot at?
If you answered “yes” to those questions, you aren’t alone. Everyone has a past. Now, for some, there may be more mistakes in the past than others… My lists of mistakes is pretty long compared to others… But still, most of us have made mistakes… Most of us have slipped. So what do you do if you have made mistakes? You move on.. .You learn from your mistake and move on.
That’s what Paul did. Before Paul was converted, he was “Saul.” Saul was on his way to Damascus to persecute some Christians when he had his dramatic conversion experience. From that point forward, his life was changed.
But, Paul’s past was still there. And, who knows… maybe there was a time or two when someone reminded him of his past.
In Philippians 4:13-14 Paul writes, “..but this one thing I do… forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead… I press on toward the goal for the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Notice Paul says… “forgetting what lies behind… I press on…”
Isaiah 65:17 says, “…and the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind…”
Maybe the devil is reminding you of some things in the past that you need to let go of.       Maybe some relatives or friends want to remind you of your past or, maybe you at times, dwell on your past. Ask the Lord to give you the strength to set the past aside and move forward.
Yes, maybe you made some stupid decisions. Maybe you could kick yourself for some things you did or didn’t do. But, kicking yourself doesn’t change the past. It’s done.       Recognize it, admit, learn from it… forget it…
With the Lord’s help, set the past aside and move forward.
