Many of you remember the TV sitcom “Cheers.” It was set in a Boston pub. Every day, the same customers came in and talked about their problems. But what you may remember more than the show, was the opening song. It went like this;
“Making your way in the world today takes everything you got
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name,
and they’re always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows Your name.”
You wanna go “where everybody knows your name…” The people in the sitcom were friends and everyone needs a friend.
Proverbs 18:24 says, “There are friends who destroy each other but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”
Think about that… a real friend…. that is someone who is with us when things are tough. Someone has said that a “real friend walks in when everyone else walks out.”
Jesus is our best friend. John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
There is an old hymn that goes;”What a friend we have in Jesus; All our griefs and sorrows bear…
What a privilege to carry, Everything to God in prayer..”
In addition to the Lord, hopefully you have at least one close friend. A good friend… a real friend… sticks closer than a brother.
