“I Just Need Some Peace Of Mind”

I just need some “peace and quiet.”
Most of us have heard someone say that… we may have even said it. Or, we may tell someone we are about to get away. We are going to the mountains or the beach and we are looking forward to some “peace and quiet.”
Or, someone may say, “I’m not going to do this.. I just don’t have any peace about it.”
All of us want peace. Lots of money is spent on prescriptions that are for the purpose of giving us peace. Maybe it’s something to help calm our nerves. Or, something to help us deal with depression. Whatever it is, the medication is designed to help us have peace.
The Bible talks about peace. In the book of Judges, the angel of God appeared to a man named Gideon. The angel appeared to Gideon to call him into the Lord’s service. God wanted Gideon to be the judge of Israel that would Israel into battle against the Midianites. At the conclusion of the time when the angel appeared to Gideon, the Lord said to Gideon, “Peace to you; do not fear, you shall not die.” Then Gideon built an altar and named it “Yahweh Shalom” or, “The Lord is Peace.”
In our desire for peace, people at times turn to alcohol or drugs or a shopping spree or maybe a trip. We are certain that those things will bring us peace. but they don’t. Oh, alcohol numbs the pain for a little while but, it goes away. The same with drugs. A trip is ok but eventually we have to go back home.
The only true and lasting source for peace is the Lord. So, do you have peace? Do you have peace with God? Have you ever trusted Christ as your Savior? Are you experiencing the peace of God… that comes from doing God’s will… and you do you have peace with your fellow man?
The Lord wants to give us peace but, we must ask.
“Yahweh Shalom”…. “The Lord is peace.”
