The Favor Of God

“May you experience God’s favor.”
A fellow car salesman told me that one day as we were beginning our day in car sales. He was praying that God would bless me with a sale that day…. God’s favor.
What does it mean to experience the favor of God? Psalm 67:1 says, “May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us.”
In the book of Genesis, the Bible says of Joseph, “The Lord was with Joseph…” (Genesis 39:3). That phrase is recorded several times in Genesis.. “the Lord was with Joseph.” Joseph was experiencing God’s favor.
In Luke’s gospel, the Bible says Mary experienced God’s favor. When the angel appeared to hear, the angel greeted her with “Greetings favored woman! The Lord is with you.”
What does it mean to experience God’s favor? Is it all about money? Can we pray for God to pour out His blessings on us and we will become wealthy? God can bless whom He chooses but, but favor is not all about material things.
Think about it… to experience God’s favor we must first must trust Christ as Savior. God isn’t going to favor someone who hasn’t believed in His Son. Then, we must strive to walk with the Lord daily. Every day, our desire should be to honor the Lord. But, does that automatically mean that God is going to bless us? Not necessarily.
So what does it mean to experience the favor of God? I believe it means to trust Christ as Savior, walk with the Lord daily and rest in the Lord. We are content with what God has given us and God promises to provide for us. I don’t necessarily think it means that we all have the “midas touch” so to speak… in that anything we touch turns to gold or turns into a great business opportunity.
The favor of God is not necessarily material blessings. The favor of God rests on us as we follow God and as we trust Him and are at peace in His will. Then, God smiles on us with His favor as He does with all His children who do the same.
