How Are Our Sins Forgiven?

How are our sins forgiven? They are forgiven through asking Jesus to forgive us? But, before Jesus, how did God’s people have their sins forgiven?
In Leviticus 16, details are laid out to atone for the sins of Israel. The word “atone” means “cover,” so, Israel’s sins were covered.
Once a year, there was a Day Of Atonement. On that day, Aaron, the high priest would sacrifice a young bull for a sin offering for him and his family. Then, Aaron would take two male goats for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. Then, he would make sacrifices for the people of Israel.
After doing that, Aaron would enter the Tabernacle and would go into the Holy of Holies. one ram Then, Aaron would enter the tabernacle. He would take blood from one of the bull’s and would sprinkle it on the mercy seat which was the covering for the ark of the covenant. In doing so, he was atoning for the sins of Israel. This had to be done every year.
So every year, on the Day of Atonement, Israel’s sins were covered. But, when Jesus came this wasn’t necessary. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, the Bible says when Jesus cried out, “It is finished!”, the veil of the temple was torn into from top to bottom. When that happened, man then had direct access to God. A priest was no longer necessary.
Today, you can be forgiven of any sin if you will ask the Lord to forgive you. Jesus will forgive us of anything. But we must ask. Jesus has paid the price for our sins on Calvary. They have been atoned for. We must accept Jesus offer of grace.
