How Do You Use Your Tongue? To Bless God or Curse Men?

There is an old saying that God gave us two ears and one mouth; that means we should listen more than we speak.
There is definitely a lot of truth to that because when we speak, we have the ability to help someone or harm someone and often unfortunately, we harm. Our society has almost become mean. Everyone is yelling at one another. We seem to have lost the ability to agree to disagree with one another.
Social media isn’t helping this. There have always been mean-spirited people… I mean, Cain murdered Abel in the fourth chapter of the first book of the Bible. But today, with social media, it’s easy for someone to pick up their phone or get on their computer and vent their anger for everyone to read. How do we fix this?
Psalms 17:3 says, “I am determined not to sin in what I say.” Think about that verse… “I am determined not to sin in what I say.” That means that before we open our mouths, we will think about what we are about to say.
How many times have you heard someone say, “Every time I open my big mouth, it gets me into trouble.” The answer to that is easy; just don’t open your big mouth or be careful what comes out of your big mouth.
At times, a person may say, “Let me give you a piece of my mind.” I want to say, “Please don’t…. I don’t necessarily want a piece of your mind.”
We need to guard our tongues. We need to be careful what we say. Our tongue can get us into trouble.
On the other hand, the tongue can bless someone. With the tongue, we bless someone. With the tongue, we thank someone. With the tongue, we encourage someone.
So, it’s up to us how we use the tongue God has given us. Like the Psalmist, let’s be careful… let’s be “determined not to sin in what we say.”
James said, “with the tongue we bless our Lord and Father with we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness…” (James 3:10). Lets use our tongue to bless the Lord and encourage one another
